About the Northwest Lightning
The Northwest Lightning Alliance is the initiative of Pennant Hills and Westbrook Junior football clubs enabling the introduction and growth of Girls AFL in our region. The values of fun, development and participation have made the North West Lightning games some of the most positive and enjoyable experiences for players and spectators.
The alliance’s was established in 2016 as a joint venture between Pennant Hills, Westbrook and Hornsby-Berowra junior AFL clubs, with the clubs combining to form an U14s team. The alliance grew quickly and in 2017 the Lightning fielded teams in Under 15s and Under 12s competitions. By 2020 the alliance had sufficient numbers to register teams across all age divisions in the AFL Sydney Harbour competition.
The alliance secured its first premiership in 2023 with the North West Lightning YG12 Blue division victorious in their grand final.
In 2024, the alliance fielded 10 teams, with teams in all age divisions. In 2025, the Hornsby-Berowra Eagles announced their exit from the Alliance.
The alliance clubs are each affiliated with the Pennant Hills Demons for senior football. There is more information about playing pathways from junior to senior football at the Demons website.
